Reimagining mosques as spaces of healing and belonging.
Overview
Roots & Refuge is a 6–8 week pilot supported by Thrive LDN & Peace Collective, delivered in partnership with Living London. The programme creates culturally grounded, trauma-informed wellbeing hubs for communities affected by war, crisis, and displacement.
What We Do
- Wellbeing Circle Sessions – guided group conversations using faith-aligned and trauma-informed approaches.
- Cultural Memory Workshops – storytelling, mapping, and creative expression to connect past and present.
- Sensory Design Micro-Interventions – simple, low-cost changes to mosque environments that make spaces more welcoming and calming.
- Mosque Wellbeing Toolkit – a practical resource for mosque leaders to continue activities beyond the pilot.
Where
Delivered in partnership with mosques in East London, where displaced Muslim communities face the greatest need.

Why It Matters
Mosques are more than places of prayer — they are anchors of culture, memory, and resilience. Roots & Refuge supports communities to find safety, belonging, and hope in familiar, trusted spaces.
